And John McClane thought terrorists were tough. The award-winning creator and screenwriter of ground-breaking BBC action fantasy television show, Spirit Warriors starring Jessica Henwick (Star Wars The Force Awakens, Games of Thrones), brings you a fast-paced sci-fi action movie screenplay to thrill lovers of the original Independence Day, Armageddon and I Am Legend.

Murphy has recently separated from her husband, JT. A tough NY cop, Murphy is frustrated by her husband's laid back attitude to life, especially as they have a depressed eleven year old daughter to contend with.

As she starts working on a case involving the mysterious death of a young billionaire scientist -- who just happens to be the reason JT is fired from his job -- she learns that a new and devastating parasite has infected the population and is spreading rapidly...

And her daughter Ronnie, having skipped out on the babysitter, is out there, trapped in a building with a stranger. Can Murphy get to her before it's too late?

Let me start by saying I have studied screenplays for years in high school and college. There is nothing more satisfying than being able to mentally see your surroundings based on nothing but the chosen descriptive words the author writes, and that is exactly what Jo Ho has managed to do. She paints a picture so visually pleasing that it's as if you aren't even reading a screenplay, but watching its full production in the theaters.
That being said, just because it is a screenplay, I would not discourage anyone from buying this piece!
The story takes place in New York City, a beautiful, colorful, and vibrant city, only to be filled with the color red. The cover of the book brilliantly gives the vibe of what will take place...an infection. Not only just an infection but a plausible one at that. The thing I really appreciate is the anount of research the author must have done to actually include a mondern day known fungus. It adds to the horror and makes you ask "What if?".
This infection terrorizes a city and its origin a complete mystery. I had the most fun trying to piece together a puzzle that Jo has harmoniously arranged for her readers. The way the characters are tied together in the most ridiculously and brilliant ways was something that left me gasping out loud!
I have never read anything that has actually had me at the edge of my seat just as a movie would have done. It's gruesome, horrifying, witty, and hopeful all in one amazing piece of work. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone looking for a quick but ever satisfying read.
As I looked into the author for more work, i noticed she just published again, another screenplay called Monkey Nut Tales! It looks completely different from this book, but the way she captured my interest with this one, I will be purchasing this one as well!!!

Great writing. I could actually learn to like screenplays.
But I still prefer novels. Too much aside stuff for me.
Excellent fast-paced sci-fi thriller, horrifying to think things like this could happen! Very real characters that you must see through to the last page! Written so well as a screenplay that I feel like I just watched the movie.
Selling a screenplay as a book, what a novel idea!! After reading Wanted by Jo Ho I had to try her screenplay Spore and it doesn't disappoint with plenty of action from start to finish.
I agree, a screenplay differs somewhat from a book in that your imagination plays but a limited role. It is like watching TV. Everything is presented as if happening right now in front of your eyes.
For me it therefore makes sense to compare a screen play with movies I have seen. In this respect Spore is a stereotypical horror story with worn out expressions/gags and settings seen in many movies already. Like gruesome aliens incubating and bursting out of human bodies (for example Alien). Assaults on the Empire State Building (for example King Kong). Mass infections resulting in Zombi like human beings.
Then there is a huge problem with logic. If the prime objective of the parasite is to get to spore, why then does Paris hunt down Ronnie and Lam to kill them? Especially when a point is made (and illustrated with some examples) that these infected only attacks when hindered to move to a place to spore.
Furthermore, of the infection was originally created by a mold having melded with human DNA and the cure was demonstrated being effective by injecting the cure into a infected person, why then would spraying on the cure on the infected work. The method of aerolising/ spraying the cure makes no sense.
Nor does the sudden mass production of the cure when obviously resources to do so could I not be anticipated. Using missiles as a delivery system also makes little sense in terms what effect is supposed to be obtained.
There is really little original or a novelty in this story.
The characters are all rather one dimensional and reader/watcher identification with any character is nil.
All in all, I would rate the movie rather poorly. So also this screenplay.
I need to begin by saying that I have never read a screenplay before Spore and the reason I did was because I am a fan of Jo Ho’s writing. If there is anyone out there that is intimidated by screen plays I suggest you start here.

As I alluded in my opening remarks this is a very easy read for screenplay novices like myself. This, however, does not mean that it lacks in substance. From beginning to end I was in awe due to the amazing attention to detail and fantastic character development. Character development is an integral part of any book/screenplay in my opinion (and sadly most writers ignore this), and that is why I was so drawn to JT and Murphy’s situation. I was simply astonished by the way Jo was able to articulate details, character development, and incredible nonstop action without losing her footing. and that is quite and achievement.

Hats off to Jo on this amazing screenplay. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a fresh well-researched action packed Sci-fi read. By the way, I have tried reading other screenplays since Spore ****Spoiler Alert**** Not as good
